Database
A system designed to store repetitive information in an easily accessible format.
A database file consists of tables which hold record structures containing field names.
For example, the table 'customers' may contain the field names: 'customer_code', 'company', 'address' and 'telephone_number' which define the record structure. Adding the customer information, creates the records.
An additional file called an 'index', may be added to speed up searches via methods such as B-Tree indexing.
