New Top Level Domains (TLD's) are now available for Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Known collectively as 'dotCities', the domains will help to build the existing .za internet landscape into a more vibrant cyberspace.
These domain names are expected to become available the course of 2014, after a successful application to ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
DNS testing of systems is currently underway. An additional TLD, .africa will also be available.
The domain names dotJoburg, dotCapeTown and dotDurban have been set a launch date of 1 May, 2014. The following domain types will then be available for registration: .co.za, .joburg, .capetown, .durban, .africa.
The dotCities domain names have secured the support of the Department of Communications and the relevant city municipal councils.
